Cladding is a protective outer layer of boards or panels, such as timber, composite, fibre cement or uPVC, fixed to battens on the outside of a wall to change its appearance, shed rain and, where insulation is added, reduce heat loss.
We offer cladding throughout Cheshire, from Warrington, Chester, Crewe and Ellesmere Port to the smaller places in between. Each project starts with a free survey at your home and ends with a written figure, fixed for the work you choose. Because Cheshire is in England, we work to the planning system and building standards used there, and guide prices for the North West run at £4,800–£11,500 including VAT.

Housing across Cheshire
Chester mixes Georgian and Victorian terraces with black-and-white revival frontages, and red sandstone shows up across the west of the county. Crewe has railway-era brick terraces, Macclesfield has mill workers' cottages, and Wilmslow, Knutsford and Alderley Edge are known for large detached homes. Interwar semis and newer estates surround Warrington and Northwich.
Terraced and mill-era cottages often need repointing, roof work and loft space. Larger detached homes commonly take on kitchen extensions, bifold doors and garden landscaping, while interwar semis suit side extensions and replacement windows.
The Cheshire Plain is fairly mild, but rainfall rises towards the Pennine edge, and parts of mid Cheshire have a history of subsidence linked to salt extraction.
Planning and building rules in Cheshire
Which rules apply depends on where you live. For Cheshire, the answer is England, and the points below reflect that; we verify them with the council before quoting.
In England, re-rendering or cladding a house is often allowed without planning permission, but stone, render, timber, plastic or tile cladding is not permitted development in conservation areas, and listed buildings need consent.
If you render or re-clad more than 25% of an external wall, Building Regulations usually require the wall’s insulation to be improved where that is practical, and building control should be notified.
Rules change and every property is different, so we check the planning history and constraints for your address before we quote.
The four stages
Free site survey
A free survey comes first. It gives us what we need to price cladding properly, including dimensions, existing materials and access for deliveries, and gives you the chance to ask anything you like.
Written quote
The quote arrives in writing, not over the phone. It covers the full scope, the finishes you've chosen, any exclusions and the payment schedule, with a fixed price tied to that specification.
Booking the work
Preparation matters as much as the build. We agree access, parking and working hours with you, order materials in good time, and confirm any permissions so the job isn't held up once it starts.
On site to finish
Our trades complete cladding while your point of contact keeps you updated. When everything is finished, we clear the site, take away waste and go through the result with you before handover.
How we work
Questions about cladding in Cheshire
Can cladding improve insulation?
Cladding can improve insulation if insulation boards are fixed to the wall behind the battens, which reduces heat loss and can help with cold or damp internal walls. This adds thickness, so window reveals, sills and roof edges need careful detailing. Cladding alone, without insulation, adds very little warmth. We can price both options so you can compare.
Are there fire-safety rules for cladding?
Building regulations limit the fire-spread performance of cladding on walls close to a boundary and on taller buildings, which can rule out some timber or composite products in those positions. Cavity barriers behind the cladding also help stop fire spreading through the gap. Fibre cement is non-combustible. We check boundary distances and product data before recommending a material.
Do I need planning permission to clad my house?
Whether cladding needs planning permission depends on the material and how it changes the look of the house, your home's location, whether it is listed or in a conservation area, and which UK nation you live in. In England, cladding is generally permitted development only if the materials look similar to the existing house, and it is not permitted development in conservation areas. We check before quoting.
Can you combine cladding with other work?
Yes. Because we manage several trades under one contract, we can plan cladding alongside other work on your Cheshire home, such as new windows with rendering, or a kitchen refit with an extension. Combining jobs can reduce repeat set-up such as scaffolding, skips and access, and every element is listed and priced in the same written quote.
Which postcodes in Cheshire do you cover?
We cover WA1, CH1, CW1 and CH64, along with the rest of Cheshire. If your postcode is not listed, get in touch anyway: our coverage is UK-wide, and we can usually arrange a survey wherever you live. Enter your postcode in the guide-price tool or contact form and we will confirm.
