Flooring installation is the supply and fitting of a new floor finish, such as laminate, luxury vinyl tile, engineered wood or solid wood, over a properly levelled and prepared subfloor, with underlay, trims and thresholds finished neatly.

We offer new flooring throughout Lanarkshire, from East Kilbride, Hamilton, Meikle Earnock and Cumbernauld to the smaller places in between. Each project starts with a free survey at your home and ends with a written figure, fixed for the work you choose. Because Lanarkshire is in Scotland, we work to the planning system and building standards used there, and guide prices for Scotland run at £1,150–£3,800 including VAT.

Homes in Lanarkshire

Lanarkshire mixes sandstone tenements and terraces in Hamilton, Motherwell, Airdrie and Coatbridge with former miners' rows and large post-war estates, many finished in roughcast. East Kilbride and Cumbernauld were developed as post-war new towns, and newer private estates surround most towns.

Roughcast homes commonly need re-rendering, window replacement and roof work. Semis and bungalows suit extensions and loft conversions, and new-town houses often take garage conversions and driveways.

Wet and fairly cold, with frequent rain off the Atlantic; former coal workings underlie parts of the area.

Do you need permission in Lanarkshire?

England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland each handle planning a little differently. Lanarkshire comes under Scotland, covered below, and we raise any questions with the council before your quote is finalised.

Internal improvements do not need planning permission in Scotland unless the building is listed.

Like-for-like kitchen and bathroom replacements do not normally need a building warrant, but structural changes and some drainage or heating alterations do, and electrical work must meet the building standards.

Rules change and every property is different, so we check the planning history and constraints for your address before we quote.

The four stages

  1. We look at the job

It starts with a survey at the property, free of charge. We check condition, access and services, ask how you want the finished result to look, and answer any questions you have about new flooring.

  2. Quote in writing

We turn the survey notes into a written quote. The price is fixed for the specification we agree, and the document sets out materials, scope and payment stages in plain language.

  3. Getting ready

Next comes planning the work itself. We set a start date that suits you, line up the right trades, and make sure any approvals for new flooring are in place before the first day on site.

  4. Build and hand over

The work is carried out to the agreed specification, with floors and furniture protected and the site kept tidy. At the end we clean up, walk through the finished job with you and hand over any certificates.

How we work

Coverage across the UKWe take on projects in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and plan each one under the rules for the nation it is in.
One contract, several tradesJobs that need builders, plasterers, electricians and decorators come under a single contract, so you are not coordinating separate firms yourself.
Clear staged paymentsThe quote sets out when each payment falls due, linked to stages of the work, so you know in advance what is owed and when.
Certified where requiredElectrical, gas and other notifiable work is carried out by suitably registered people, and you receive the relevant certificates when it is finished.

Questions about new flooring in Lanarkshire

What do I need to do before the fitters arrive?

Before fitting day, clear small items, ornaments and anything fragile from the room, and empty cupboards and wardrobes that stand on the floor. Let us know about heavy furniture so we can agree who moves it. Make sure the heating is set to a normal temperature so the flooring acclimatises properly. If you have pets, keep them out of the room while we work.

How do I look after a new floor?

Looking after a new floor is mostly about keeping grit off it, because grit acts like sandpaper. Use doormats, sweep or vacuum regularly and clean with a damp, not wet, mop using a cleaner made for that floor type. Put felt pads under furniture legs. Oiled wood floors need occasional re-oiling, while lacquered wood, laminate and LVT just need regular cleaning.

How long does it take to lay a floor?

Laying a floor in an average room usually takes one to two days. Open-plan spaces, herringbone patterns and floors needing levelling compound take longer, because the compound must dry before the floor goes down. Some products also need to acclimatise in the room for a day or two before fitting. We confirm timings for your rooms with the written quote.

Which postcodes in Lanarkshire do you cover?

We cover G74, ML3, ML3 and G67, along with the rest of Lanarkshire. If your postcode is not listed, get in touch anyway: our coverage is UK-wide, and we can usually arrange a survey wherever you live. Enter your postcode in the guide-price tool or contact form and we will confirm.

Do I need planning permission in Lanarkshire?

It depends on the work, the size of the project, your property type and whether the building is listed or in a conservation area. Lanarkshire is in Scotland, so Scotland's rules apply. Many smaller jobs need no planning application, but some still need building control approval. We check what applies to your address before quoting.
