Flooring installation is the supply and fitting of a new floor finish, such as laminate, luxury vinyl tile, engineered wood or solid wood, over a properly levelled and prepared subfloor, with underlay, trims and thresholds finished neatly.

We offer new flooring across Mid Glamorgan, and Rhondda is one of the places we cover, along with nearby Tonypandy, Aberdare and Pontypridd. Before anything is agreed we visit, check the existing structure and talk through your options. You then receive a written quote setting out the full scope; for most homes in Wales it sits within £1,100–£3,700 including VAT.

Building in Rhondda

The Rhondda, Cynon and Merthyr valleys are lined with stone terraces built for mining families, stepped along steep hillsides. Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Merthyr Tydfil have Victorian centres, and Bridgend has grown with large modern estates alongside interwar and post-war housing.

Valley terraces commonly need repointing, roof repairs, rendering and window replacement, and loft conversions can add useful space. Newer estate homes often take garage conversions, porches and landscaping.

That mix of housing shapes how we approach new flooring in Rhondda: the age and construction of your home affect the materials, the method and, in the end, the price.

Permissions for new flooring in Rhondda

As Rhondda is in Wales, read the following with that system of planning and building control in mind. We check what applies to your house with the council before you receive a quote.

Internal improvements do not need planning permission in Wales unless the building is listed.

Building Regulations in Wales cover notifiable electrical work, drainage, ventilation and any structural change.

Rules change and every property is different, so we check the planning history and constraints for your address before we quote.

From survey to handover

  1. A visit to your home

A free survey comes first. It gives us what we need to price new flooring properly, including dimensions, existing materials and access for deliveries, and gives you the chance to ask anything you like.

  2. Quote in writing

After the survey we send a quote for new flooring that fixes the price for the scope we've agreed. If you want to change materials or scope, we revise it in writing before anything is booked.

  3. Dates and permissions

We handle the paperwork side: checking whether planning permission or building control approval is needed, submitting applications where they are, and scheduling the trades and materials around your dates.

  4. Build and hand over

The work is carried out to the agreed specification, with floors and furniture protected and the site kept tidy. At the end we clean up, walk through the finished job with you and hand over any certificates.

Questions about new flooring in Rhondda

What happens at the survey?

We visit your home at a time that suits you, look at the area involved, take measurements and check access, condition and any services that might be affected. We talk through what you want from new flooring, explain the options and answer questions. There is no charge and no obligation; afterwards we send a written quote.

Do I need planning permission in Rhondda?

It depends on the work, the size of the project, your property type and whether the building is listed or in a conservation area. Rhondda is in Wales, so Wales's rules apply. Many smaller jobs need no planning application, but some still need building control approval. We check what applies to your address before quoting.

How do I look after a new floor?

Looking after a new floor is mostly about keeping grit off it, because grit acts like sandpaper. Use doormats, sweep or vacuum regularly and clean with a damp, not wet, mop using a cleaner made for that floor type. Put felt pads under furniture legs. Oiled wood floors need occasional re-oiling, while lacquered wood, laminate and LVT just need regular cleaning.

Which flooring is right for a kitchen or bathroom?

Luxury vinyl tile, or LVT, is usually the most practical choice for kitchens and bathrooms, because it is water-resistant, warm underfoot and comfortable to stand on. Porcelain tiles also suit wet areas. Standard laminate and solid wood can swell if water sits on them, though some water-resistant laminates are available. We recommend a floor based on how the room is used.

What do I need to do before the fitters arrive?

Before fitting day, clear small items, ornaments and anything fragile from the room, and empty cupboards and wardrobes that stand on the floor. Let us know about heavy furniture so we can agree who moves it. Make sure the heating is set to a normal temperature so the flooring acclimatises properly. If you have pets, keep them out of the room while we work.
