Roofline replacement renews the fascia boards that carry your gutters, the soffits beneath the eaves, bargeboards on gable ends and the gutters and downpipes, usually in low-maintenance uPVC, to protect rafter ends and carry rainwater safely away.
Cost is usually the first question about new fascias, soffits and guttering, so here is the guide for the North West: £1,900–£4,300 including VAT. We cover the whole of Merseyside, with Liverpool, Birkenhead, St Helens and Southport among the main centres. Because each UK nation sets its own rules, we check the requirements in England for your property, then put a firm price on paper following a free survey.

Homes in Merseyside
Liverpool's housing includes Georgian terraces near the centre, large areas of Victorian red-brick terraces, Edwardian semis in the suburbs and big interwar council estates. The Wirral has Victorian villas and interwar semis, Southport has Victorian villas and bungalows, and St Helens and Knowsley have post-war estates and newer housing.
Terraces suit loft rooms, kitchen extensions and repointing, and many need their roofs and windows renewed. Suburban semis commonly take side extensions, driveways and porches.
Coastal areas on the Wirral and Sefton coast are exposed to salt and wind, and the region gets frequent rain off the Irish Sea.
Planning and building rules in Merseyside
Merseyside is in England, so the planning and building rules set out below are the ones that apply. We confirm the details with the council before we quote.
Replacing fascias, soffits and guttering does not need planning permission in England unless the house is listed or a conservation area restricts materials.
Building Regulations do not normally apply to like-for-like roofline replacement. Bats are protected across the UK; if they roost under roof tiles, soffits or fascias, work stops and a licensed ecologist advises before it restarts.
Rules change and every property is different, so we check the planning history and constraints for your address before we quote.
From survey to handover
We look at the job
It starts with a survey at the property, free of charge. We check condition, access and services, ask how you want the finished result to look, and answer any questions you have about new fascias, soffits and guttering.
Your fixed price
The quote arrives in writing, not over the phone. It covers the full scope, the finishes you've chosen, any exclusions and the payment schedule, with a fixed price tied to that specification.
Booking the work
We handle the paperwork side: checking whether planning permission or building control approval is needed, submitting applications where they are, and scheduling the trades and materials around your dates.
The work itself
The work is carried out to the agreed specification, with floors and furniture protected and the site kept tidy. At the end we clean up, walk through the finished job with you and hand over any certificates.

Questions about new fascias, soffits and guttering in Merseyside
Which postcodes in Merseyside do you cover?
We cover L1, CH41, WA9 and L37, along with the rest of Merseyside. If your postcode is not listed, get in touch anyway: our coverage is UK-wide, and we can usually arrange a survey wherever you live. Enter your postcode in the guide-price tool or contact form and we will confirm.
Is the price fixed?
Yes, for the specification we agree. Your written quote sets out exactly what is included at a fixed price. It only changes if you ask for something different, or if a problem the survey could not reasonably reveal later needs extra work. In either case we explain the change and confirm it in writing before going ahead.
Should I replace my fascias or just cap them?
Capping, or cladding over old timber fascias with thin uPVC, costs less but traps any rot underneath and hides the condition of the rafter ends. Full replacement removes the old boards so rafter ends can be checked and repaired, and gives a stronger fixing for gutters. We usually recommend full replacement unless the existing timber is genuinely sound.
How do I look after uPVC roofline?
uPVC fascias and soffits need little upkeep: wash them once or twice a year with warm soapy water and a soft brush, avoiding solvents and abrasive cleaners. Gutters need clearing at least once a year, usually in late autumn, and more often near trees. Check downpipes are running clear after heavy rain. Gutter guards can reduce how often clearing is needed.
Why do my gutters overflow?
Gutters usually overflow because they are blocked by leaves, moss or debris, have lost their fall so water sits rather than running to the outlet, or are too small for the roof area. Sagging brackets and failed joints also cause leaks. We check falls, joints and outlet sizes during the survey and may suggest deeper gutters or extra downpipes for large roofs.
